Ways to help

Volunteers wanted!

Live-in community members and volunteers are needed at Giuseppe Conlon House. Come and be a part of a community of hospitality and non-violent resistance. If you want to live simply, in community with the poor, and work for peace and justice, then this is for you!

Tasks are diverse and include housekeeping, repairs, gardening, administration, case work, organizing and taking part in workshops and vigils, and spending time with guests as well as being involved with other projects. We usually expect volunteers to make a minimum commitment of 6 months. We offer free accommodation and meals.

We ask potential volunteers to complete a questionnaire and provide us with a reference. It often takes about 3 to 6 months until a vacancy comes up so please let us know in advance if you are interested in joining our community.

Other ways of participating

External volunteers: There are many other ways of getting involved for those who want to be part of our extended community. We have and need regular volunteers to help in every area of our life and work. This can include accompanying the Guests who live with us, help publishing and mailing out the newsletter, driving, DIY, handy wo/man, etc. We also need people specific skills like electrician, buildings, admin and book keeping, plumbing, fundraising, IT and more.

Writing for us: We run a newsletter and a blog. If you would like to write a piece for us, contact us. Newsletter articles are generally around 400 words (1 page) or 1000 words (2 pages), while blog post-length is more flexible. Our central subject interest is the relation between faith and social justice, with a particular focus of the themes of Catholic Worker movement. Please consult our past newsletters and posts for a sense of the subject matter and style of our published writing.

Regular events: Every third Monday of the month at 12.30 pm we host a one-hour prayer vigil in solidarity with migrants and refugees who have been victims of our cruel European border policies.  As part of the liturgy, we read the names and stories of people who have died attempting dangerous crossings that are a result of the government's hostile environment policy. The vigil takes place outside the Home Office on Marsham Street, London.
