Vigil for refugee week

"I was a stranger and you welcomed me" - Matthew 25:35

To coincide with Refugee Week, the London Catholic Worker will be holding a vigil outside the Home Office. All are warmly invited to join the LCW in a vigil of liturgy, prayers, shared stories, poetry and music.

  • Tuesday 19th June, 12.30 pm -14.30 pm

  • Home Office, 2, Marsham Street, Westminster SW1P 4DF.

  • Nearest Tube: Westminster, St James’ Park, Victoria

During the week when we celebrate the positive contribution made to society by refugees, we wish to show solidarity with all those men, women and children who, arriving on our shores in search of a better life, suffer from destitution, indignity and imprisonment everyday at the hands of our unjust immigration system.

As we challenge the cultures of fear, prejudice, self-interest and scapegoating of immigrants prevalent within today's society, we call on the government to have a change of heart and extend a true welcome to strangers in need, offering human dignity. These are our brothers and sisters in whom the Church has always recognised the persecuted face of Christ
